Superior orbital fissure

Location: It is present in the superior wall of orbit

Shape: Retort shaped

Features

  • It is the gap present between greater and lesser wings of sphenoid bone.
  • It is completed laterally by the frontal bone uniting the two wing



The dimensions of various nerves
  • Optic nerve: Thickest sensory cranial nerve. It contains 1 million neurons.
  • Lower division of oculomotor nerve is thicker as compared to upper division. It has more branches.
  • Trochlear and abducent nerves are less thick than oculomotor nerve.
  • Nasociliary is thin nerve
